Drones in action

Iosif Chamounta @ drone pilots in Chemnitz

Our research assistant Iosif visited the volunteer fire department's drone pilots in Chemnitz.

Purpose of the visit was to gain insight into the flying operations in emergency situations such as major fires, road accidents and missing persons.

As part of our IC-Fred research project, we studied the system features drone operators need in emergencies situation. We gathered information on maps, GPS signals, camera feeds, and advanced automation features such as object detection and RGB or infrared cameras.

Developing a user-centered system requires understanding direct interaction with emergency services. Especially for safety-critical systems, it is vital to consider the experiences and requirements.

We sincerely appreciate the open and constructive collaboration with the Chemnitz volunteer fire department’s drone pilots and thank them for sharing their valuable knowledge.
