From April 9 to 10, 2025, we were guests at the IEEE Workshop on Electrical Machines Design, Control and Diagnosis (WEMDCD) in Valletta/Malta. The conference building was located on the Valletta Campus in the Old University Building in the historic center of the city. The thematic focus of the conference was on the design, modeling, control and fault diagnosis of electrical machines and drives.

On the first day of the conference, our PhD student Andreas Rauscher was able to present a poster about his paper entitled “Investigation of Factors Influencing the End-of-Line Partial Discharge Testing of Electrical Machines” in the session “Electrical Drives Reliability and Monitoring”. He quickly got talking to experts in the field and was able to exchange ideas directly.

A special highlight of the conference was the city tour of Mdina, the old capital of Malta. Film experts know Mdina as one of the filming locations for Game of Thrones. Mesquita Square, the narrow alleyways and the medieval fortifications were particularly impressive. Afterwards, the conference participants enjoyed a dinner together at “The Medina Restaurant” on the evening of the first conference day.
